Google’s AI training initiative is designed to build a strong foundation in digital literacy, allowing teachers to guide students in using artificial intelligence safely, responsibly, and effectively. The program aims to boost educator confidence, ease administrative burnout, and prepare students for an AI-integrated workforce.
While the curriculum utilizes Google tools like Gemini for Education and Gemini Notebook for hands-on, practical application, it is designed in partnership with ISTE+ASCD to teach broad, tech-agnostic AI concepts, critical thinking, and responsible use policies that apply across any digital learning ecosystem.
The training is broken into short, non-sequential micro-learning modules designed to fit into busy academic schedules. It is split into three main categories: Foundational Understanding, Pedagogical Applications (grade-level specific for K-12), and Administrative Applications.
- K-12 educators: Sessions last 10–15 minutes.
- Higher Education faculty: Sessions last 30–45 minutes.
All coursework aligns with the ISTE+ASCD Standards for Educators and Faculty and supports the Profile of an AI-Ready Graduate. The program offers self-serve individual pathways or a comprehensive instructor-led curriculum via the Google for Education Learning Center. Both tracks award a digital certificate badge upon completing a short quiz.
Both K12 and Higher Ed GES sessions are now live! New monthly content rollouts are scheduled to drop on the first Wednesday of every month.
The curriculum is co-developed by Google and ISTE+ASCD (the world’s largest innovation-focused education nonprofit). This partnership combines Google’s machine learning infrastructure with ISTE+ASCD’s pedagogical standards to ensure a high-quality, nationwide professional development rollout.
The training is 100% no-cost for all participating educators. Google is fully funding the professional development initiative to scale national AI literacy; no proprietary financial details of the nonprofit partnership are disclosed.
While Google does not provide direct financial compensation, the micro-learning format is structured to fit into existing contracted school hours (such as prep periods or lunch). Upon completion, educators receive badges. The program directly addresses the AI confidence and knowledge gaps highlighted in recent global UNESCO education surveys.
Educators can register their contact information directly through the official Google for Education AI Interest Form to receive immediate updates, curriculum alerts, and access links.
